In addition to screening films and holding film festivals, the San Francisco Film Society offers youth education programs, filmmaker sponsorships and residencies. One of the main goals for their new website was to alert a wider audience of their many services, as well as give greater visibility to screenings and events in order to drive ticket sales and donations.

Our biggest challenge was meeting the need for a better way to navigate the Film Society’s ever-changing line up of events and films. With flexibility and customization in mind, we created an innovative calendar that gives visitors the choice of viewing events by week (as a list) or month (as a grid), dramatically improving upon the old user experience where upcoming events were simply a long list.

The interactive grid calendar displays all SFFS events in a given month, with rollovers containing film synopses and dates, and allows the viewer to filter the results based on the type of event. The list view lets viewers select an upcoming week from a dropdown menu and browse that week’s films and events.
